Belize Telemedia Limited Telephone Directory
BTL Unveils Essence of Belize Directory by 7 News Belize
posted (March 23, 2010)
Belize Telemedia’s 2010 telephone directory will be available to the public on Thursday April 1st. But it was officially launched today with a grand unveiling of this year’s cover at the Saint John’s College Gymnasium. 7News was there.
Keith Swift Reporting,
The winning cover art was this collage submitted by first form SJC Student Chu-Ling-Kuo who recently moved to Belize. He says it is an impression and expression of his new home.
Chu-Ling Kuo, Winner
“It is a drawing of what I saw in Belize, the secrets and the people’s way of life and the animals that I saw in Belize and I used my emotions to draw this. I want to show everybody that Belize is a wonderful country for me.”
Chu-Ling’s cover was chosen from among 33 entries.
Lynnette Canto, Public Relations Executive – BTL
“We opened it to secondary and tertiary level students throughout the country, we received 33 submissions. We had a panel of judges who went through the submissions. They were given a criteria such as it has to be an original work of art, it has to be something that encompasses the theme which is the Essence of Belize and it had to be something captivating, as soon as you looked at it, it would capture your interest. Those were the three main criteria. It was a difficult process for the judges, very time consuming but at the end of the day, the winning entry was the one that emerged victorious.”
And while that’s just the cover, inside the directory the white pages of the 2010 have been redesigned.
Brieanne Reyes, Manager – Directory Services
“Based on customer feedback we have changed the format for our white pages. This year the white pages will contain 15 sections. There will be one section for each major municipality throughout the country and a second one for each district. The district sections will contain listings for all the villages which are within those districts. This should make it easier for people to find their listing instead of having to know the exact location of where the person is. For example if somebody lives in the Cayo area, they would go to the Cayo section and find their listing.”
The directory will be available as of April 1st.
Chui-Ling Kuo won a laptop computer and a framed copy of the telephone directory cover. Saint John’s College received $1,000 cash prize and a framed copy of the telephone directory.
